Cystic Acne
Cystic Acne
Cystic acne is the more serious form of acne, which is the most likely to result in permanent scarring.
Cystic acne is a result of bacterial infections in follicle cells deep beneath the skin surface. Cystic acne is one of the rarer forms of acne, although it is not rare enough to be untreatable.
Acne occurs when serum builds up in the skins pores, causing spots and irritations. With Cystic acnes, these pores develop into cysts, while large and often painful pus filled swellings appear on the surface of skin. Cystic acne is not just limited to the face, but can also affect the face, back, chest, shoulders and also the upper arms.
Cystic acne can arise from both preventative and non-preventative factors. These include the obvious issues of genetics and the always body challenging years of puberty with fluctuating hormone levels. The non-preventative factors can range from scrubbing the skin with abrasive soaps and cleansing products, high stress levels, or the use of oily skin products. Even squeezing a regular pimple can be a factor as the open patch of skin is a possible entry point for bacteria.
Food sensitive people may suffer from cystic acne as a result of their diet, however there is no real link between diet and food for non-sensitive persons, and contrary to popular high school myths, cystic acne is not a result of bad personal hygiene. If anything, washing too often is likely to cause rather than prevent an outbreak.
When it comes to curing cystic acne, the best course of action is to visit a dermatologist rather than try the over the counter medicines. If cystic acne is left untreated and allowed to reach a more advanced stage, then there is more than likely going to be some residual scarring to the affected areas.
The most successful form of treatment for cystic acne is a process called Isotretinoin. Isotretinoin is an oral treatment for cystic acne and was originally designed as a treatment for some brain cancers. In the current medical world, Isotetinoin is only used after other treatments have been tried, due to the potent nature of the drug there are more possible side affects and a higher cost involved in the treatment.
In some countries around the world, Isotretinoin is avaialbe as an over the counter medicine what can be purchased online, while in many, it can only be issued after seeing a licensed dermatologist.
